Psalm 94:12-15 ERV
Lord, great blessings belong to those you discipline,
to those you teach from your law.
You help them stay calm when trouble comes.
You will help them until the wicked are put in their graves.
The Lord will not leave his people.
He will not leave them without help.
Justice will return and bring fairness.
And those who want to do right will be there to see it.
I think I've always dreaded being disciplined, whether it was by my parents, tutor, piano teacher, school teachers, the discipline master whom will whack me with a rattan cane for being late for school repeatedly, and later on at work during coaching sessions. Even if I think I am right, I have to submit humbly to authority. When I look back, I regret not following instruction, not listening attentively, not seeing that my way is not the high way, refusing to overcome failure after failure. If I had realised then what I know now, I would never have given up on piano, made my teachers cry, disappointed my employers and my parents.
I had a good gym session earlier on with Kenny and also for the past number of sessions, I have been reintroduced to the strengthening that my body needed. It was a discipline I wanted to hone, a passion to keep fit and regain my confidence. I still get tempted into eating junk food and many other things but I think, like exercise, it helps beat your body into submission.
Just like what Apostle Paul mentioned in 1 Corinthians 9:27 (NLT), "I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified."
Being disciplined indeed gives a sense of calmness in the face of adversity, and that if I want to be righteous I will see justice return, bringing fairness.
Thank you Lord Jesus for this blessing of discipline for You said, "I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference." (Revelation 3:19 NLT)
It is a great privilege to be character-moulded by You. Help me stay righteous and true. Amen.
