In context, the following verse shows the biblical requirement demanded of every believer before we receive anything that God wishes to provide us with.
Psalm 37:3-7 ESV says,
"Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!"
I had a reflection earlier while looking through my job options. I looked back at all the jobs and courses I have been through. I thought to myself about how foolish I have been at not sticking with one particular career path and honing my skill set. I regretted not focusing on my studies and doing well for the Lord. I counted myself a failure thus in all of these. I feel weakened, dry and out of sync with the world.
But God made me realise that I have a purpose, a destiny in Him. Seeing something as simple as the verse aforementioned gave me insight on what is required before I can receive the favour of being in an ideal job. God requires me to trust Him, delight myself in Him, commit my ways to Him, and most importantly to be still and wait patiently for Him!
Thank you Father God for being a watchful Person who knows what is best for me. Forgive me for not seeing that I should always do my part first, trusting and obeying You in everything, laying my life down for You, and to be patient as You hold the world in Your hands. Help me to look forward into the future and not be dismayed by what has happened before. In Jesus' Mighty Name, Amen!
